ENDescription of communities of Polish schools in Lithuania, in the light of the narrative of its members reveals a complex picture of local strategies and techniques for the construction of national identity on the Lithuanian border culture. Analysis of the research material is focused on restoring the diversity of discourse on national identity and the description phenomena of its acquisition, presentation and argumentation. These patterns of identification: “Polishness is everything to me”, “Polishness is Polish culture”, “Polishness is freedom of choice”, “Polishness – I do not know...” shows the changes in the space of a few decades, under the influence of social and political events and wider cultural processes. Social functions of Polish narratives in Lithuania are associated with the message addressed to different audiences: members of own community, the majority of Lithuanian and Polish state. These relate to the recognition of a distinct indigenous form of Polishness in Lithuania and concern for its survival.
