LTPirmoji palaimimojo arkiv. Jurgio Matulaičio MIC (1871-1927) ir vysk. Pranciškaus Petro Bučio MIC (1872-1951) tarpusavio susirašinėjimo pilna publikacija. Drauge nutarę atgaivinti Kunigų marijonų vienuoliją, jiedu buvo siejami nuolatinio bendro rūpesčio šia kongregacija ir religiniu gyvenimu Lietuvoje, Lenkijoje, Latvijoje, Rusijoje. Abipusė korespondencija, kurios išlikę pustrečio šimto laiškų, atvirukų bei telegramų iš 1907-1926 m. laikotarpio, atskleidžia iškilių Bažnyčios veikėjų sodrų dvasinį gyvenimą, šventėjimo kelią ir ugdantį tarpusavio ryšį. Tekstai dokumentuoja Marijonų vienuolijos, jų globotų moterų vienuolijų, kunigų rengimo, karitatyvinių, kultūros, švietimo ir kitų religinių institucijų, Vilniaus vyskupijos ir Lietuvos bažnytinės provincijos organizacinę raidą bei vidinę būklę. Toli pranokdami Bažnyčios istorijos interesų ratą, šie laiškai yra skvarbus gerai informuotų asmenų žvilgsnis į XX a. pradžios Lietuvos visuomenę, to meto istorinius įvykius, elito nuostatas, santykius ir geopolitines orientacijas. Publikacijoje laikomasi dokumentinio leidimo principų, didžiuma komentarų pateikti anotuotos tikrinių vardų, pavadinimų ir dalykų rodyklės pavidalu. Priedai apima bibliografiją, santrumpų sąrašą, rengimo principų aptarimą, archyvinių šaltinių aprašą, faksimilinius autografų pavyzdžius, kalbos ypatybių aprašą ir žodynėlį, dalykinius komentarus. Laiškų originalai saugomi Lietuvos centriniame valstybės archyve Vilniuje ir Centriniame marijonų archyve Romoje.
ENIt is the first full publication of the correspondence between the BlessedArchbishopJurgis Matulaitis MIC (1871-1927) and Bishop Pranciškus Petras Būčys MIC (1872-1951) in the original language (Matulaitiss letters were only published in Polish translation). The future priests were friends since the times they both studied in the Marijampolė gymnasium from 1883 to 1886; later they were brought together by their studies in the Roman Catholic Theological Academy in Saint Petersburg in 1895—1899, and in Freiburg University in 1899-1901, as well as in the period when they both taught at the Saint Petersburg Theological Academy in 1907-1911. In the latter period, having decided to choose a sanctified life and revive the monastic order of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, up until the death of Archbishop Matulaitis, they were united by their common concern about this congregation and religious life in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Russia. Their mutual correspondence, of which two and a half hundred letters, postcards and telegrams from the period between 1907 and 1926 have survived, is interesting and valuable in several respects. It reveals the personal dedication of two outstanding Church figures to the message of the Gospels, their rich spiritual life, the way of sanctification and the mutually uplifting relation.The texts document the organisational development and internal situation of the monastic order of the Marian Fathers, the womens orders under the auspices of the Marians, the training of priests, charitable, cultural, educational, and other religious institutions, the Vilnius Diocese and the Lithuanian Ecclesiastical Province. Reaching far beyond the sphere of interests of the history of the Church, these letters present a sharp insight into Lithuanian society of the early 20th century, the historical events of that time, and the attitudes, relations and geopolitical orientations of well-informed persons belonging to society’s elite, openly sharing their knowledge and opinions. In the present publication, the principles of documentary edition are observed, and the texts are not regularised from the linguistic viewpoint. Along with the main text, the apparatus of the features of autographs and inserts in other languages is presented, and the majority of the commentaries are given in the form of an annotated index of personal and other names and subjects. Annexes include bibliography, a list of abbreviations, discussion of the principles of editing, description of archival sources, facsimile examples of autographs, descriptions of linguistic features, and a glossary, as well as subject commentaries. The originals of the letters are held in the Lithuanian Central State Archives and the Central Archive of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception in Rome.
