A Nordic model of democracy? Political representation in Northern Europe

LTŠiaurės šalių – Danija, Suomija, Islandija, Norvegija ir Švedija – visuomenės ir demokratijos sulaukia daug daugiau mokslininkų dėmesio nei galima būtų tikėtis atsižvelgiant į šių šalių dydį. Šiaurės Europos regionas yra vienas turtingiausių ir taip jau pakankamai pasiturinčiame Europos žemyne. Pagal visą eilę rodiklių Šiaurės valstybes daugelį dešimtmečių lydi sėkmė. Vien dėl šios priežasties šios šalys yra laikomos dėmesio vertu tyrimo objektu. Visgi knyga, kurią pristatome šiame įvadiniame skyriuje, yra skirta ne tik Šiaurės Europos regionui, bet ir kaimyninėms šalims, trims Baltijos valstybėms – Estijai, Latvijai ir Lietuvai. Pagrindinis knygoje pristatomo tyrimo tikslas – lyginamajame kontekste išnagrinėti, kaip veikia Baltijos valstybių politinės sistemos, kaip šios šalys yra valdomos, kaip jose veikia politinio atstovavimo sistema ir demokratija. Atsispiriant nuo Šiaurės šalių patirties ir požiūrio taško, skyriuje nagrinėjama, kas dviejų valstybių grupių politikos praktikoje veikia panašiai, o kas skirtingai, lyginamos Baltijos ir Skandinavijos valstybių politinės sistemos. Knygoje keliamas ne tik aprašomasis tikslas, kartu taip pat nagrinėjamos ir siūlomos galimybės sėkmingus institucinius skandinaviškosios politikos sprendimus ir mechanizmus pritaikyti Baltijos valstybių politinėje praktikoje, nors šiuo atveju taip pat reikia atsižvelgti į gana ryškius dviejų lyginamų valstybių grupių tarpusavio skirtumus.

ENThe societies and democracies of the Northern countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) are gaining more attention of the scientists than it might be expected in respect of the size of these countries. The Northern Europe's region is one of the richest among the wealthy continent of Europe. In accordance with the various indicators, the countries of the North have been successful for decades. For this reason, these countries act as an important object of the analysis. Nevertheless, the book that is represented in this introductory chapter is dedicated not only for the Northern region of Europe but also for its neighbours, the three Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The main aspect of the book - to analyse by comparing how the political systems of the Baltic States work, how these countries are governed and how the democracy and the system of political representation are working. Despite the experience and the viewpoint of the Northern countries, it is analysed what practices in politics are similar and what are the differences when comparing the Baltic and Scandinavian political systems. Although there are major differences between the groups of the States that are compared here, the book aims not only to describe but also to analyse the possibilities to use the successful solutions and mechanisms of Scandinavian politics in the political practice of the Baltic States; it is also important to take in to account the differences between the groups of the States.
