ENThe problem of pupils getting overworked exists. Homework load is determined in accordance with the hygiene standards and regulations, general education plans for comprehensive schools for 2003-2005. The problems of immoderate homework load may be divided into two groups: 1) solvable by school communities; 2) almost irrespective of the efforts made by school communities. The aim of the article is to generalize the efficiency of the means regulating homework load at Aukštelkė Comprehensive School, Šiauliai region. Research methods were the following: search for the scientific data on homework; questionnaire survers of the pupils, their parents and teachers; analysis of the pupils medical records; interviews; pedagogical-psychological analysis of the statistic data. During an experimental school year of 2003–2004 at Aukštelkė Comprehensive School, the studying load was abated motivating the pupils to work in class; by qualitative regulations and control of homework tasks, contextualising schedules for tests and practising the accumulative marking system for accomplished homework tasks. An obvious positive change was noticed controlling homework load set for the pupils since the experiment was completed. The tutors were assigned to coordinate the studying load and increas the teaching load. Unless the problem of appropriate homework load is solved by the Government the problem will not be tackled by school communities. First of all, curricula, general standards and examination requirements have to be reconsidered.
