Summary / Abstract:

ENOne of the main goals and objectives in primary school is to help a child understand his uniqueness and identity; build up self-rrespect and trust in oneself; find own strengths and weaknesses; become aware of childhood joys and troubles and creatively employ the latter in everyday life; develop a mature understanding of responsibilities in life. Psychologists name it as the process of the formation of self-awareness, the result of which is self image. The term defines a personality as seen from his/her point of view. Usually it is an imaginary picture of oneself. Bearing in mind the fact that activities and possibilities of an individ are conditioned by self image, a favorable or unfavorable image of oneself has a positive or negative effect on the activity of a person. On the other hand, successful and unsuccessful work also influences self image. Thus, personal activities and self image are closely connected.Lately educators and psychologists while talking about a particular child have often used the such terms as „emotionally unstable“, „unbalanced emotional state“, „unable to evaluate himself and others“, etc. This is the way the following feelings are expressed in a child: fear and anxiety, irritability and agressivness, sense of inferiority and guilt, loneliness, etc. According to psychologists, main problems arise because of insufficient formation of self image, inner chaos, weak ego. In order to help such children to build up self-awareness an educator should know them well and understand their needs. One of the cognitive ways presented in the paper is the analysis of fairy stories. Psychotherapists, who apply this method in their practice of treatment, point out that while creating stories a person reveals his/her inner and outer world simultaneously. Having read the created text it is easy to assess the person’s emotional state, picture his/her problems and imaginary solutions. The aim of this article is to find out and analyze the relation between the story created and its author’s emotional state as well as to show how fairy tales can act as the means of correction of personal traits in a child.
