ENRytis Romanas Steikūnas (bom 1888) had obtained diploma of engineer-architect in Riga Institute of Technology. He worked in Batumi as district architect, later he had been attached to Persia. Then he worked as a consul of Lithuania, as Lithuanian Republic started to establish diplomatic missions abroad. He returned to Lithuania in 1923 and worked as an architect. There is no information about him since April 11, 1940, when one of his latest design projects was signed. R. R. Steikūnas had projected one building of the bank, the churches in Karmėlava and Skardupiai, parish hall with cinema in Marijampolė, shelter in Eiguliai, three resort buildings in Birštonas, villa in Lampėdžiai. It is considered that he is the author of the design project of the cathedral in Panevėžys together with Alexander Gordevich. The projects with his signature which had been found in the archives have confirmed his authorship. Projects designed by R. R. Steikūnas reflect the popular trend of that timethe search of national architectural style. One can find the stylistics of the Lithuanian small manor and vernacular architecture and ornaments in the wooden resort structures. The architect varied neoromanic, neogothic shapes in his other projects. Motives of the wooden bell towers has been exploited as well. The spirit of the Thirtieth of the XXth century is prominent in the building of the theatre of Marijampolė.
