ENClay modelling stimulates the development of fine motor and sensomotoric skills, has a positive impact on the left hemisphere that controls speech and creative thinking, activates the both hemispheres even when they are damaged. The aim of the paper is to prove that clay modelling facilitates preschool children speech and language development. 9 children (4–5 years old) with mild, moderate, severe speech and language impairment took part in the research. Their speaking skills, the use of the parts of speech were assessed before and after the experiment. The results were grouped and described in accordance with the recommendations developed by Lithuanian scientists. It was found that children used more parts of speech when they were modelling than when they were just looking at pictures, they used words related to clay modelling, spoke what they were doing, created situations, shared tools, talked about clay models. Clay modelling facilitated their communication. They used twice more adjectives, produced more sentences, repeated more words said by the teacher when they were modelling than when they were just looking at pictures. They communicated in a natural way, easier remembered words, tried to pronounce them, used language instead of movements, gestures or mimicry because they were busy with modelling. Clay modelling facilitates communication and facilitates speech and language development of presschool children who have speech and language difficulties. [From the publication]
