EN1625-1627 Livonia War episode was very special in.the Grand Lithuanian Duchy’s foreign policy and war history. The Swedish army invasion in 1625 into The ethnic Lithuania was the first foreign expansion act since the Battle of Pabaiskas in 1435 when Livonia Order’s army marched through the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Some newly found sources and their wider interpretation in the historiography spectre (army census, correspondence, memoirs) allow to reconstruct not only that Swedish period in North Lithuania under military circumstances but also explain more widely the local society beheviour peculiarities in the confrontation of the 17th century wars, reveal the unknown pages concerning the only bastion type castle in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania-Biržai castle fortification history. The paper shows how the castle defence was organized, especially how the garrison was recruited, the details of the castle loss are presented, the 17th century war influence on people’s mode of life is analyzed on the basin of private possession (Radvilai Biržai Duchy) example. The Swedish factor role in North Lithuania in 1625-1627 as well as Biržai castle recovering history are brought to light. [From the publication]
