LTLietuvos Respublikos vyriausybei priėmus steigti regioninius kultūros centrus, paaiškėjo, kad jų samprata ir veiklos vizija tarp kultūros darbuotojų yra labai įvairi. Straipsnyje autorius išsako savo nuomonę, kokia turėtų būti tokių centrų misija, funkcijos, veiklos kryptys. Autoriaus kritikuoja pradėjusią įsivyrauti nuomonę, kad regioniniai kultūros centrai neturėtų užsiimti bet kokia kultūrine, švietėjiška ar edukacine veikla, priklausomai nuo susibūrusių ir galinčių dirbti vienur vienokį, kitur – kitokį kultūrinį darbą. Jie neturėtų dubliuoti jau dabar veikiančių apskričių kultūros centrų, ir nuo jų skirtis tik savo gigantiškumu arba viršenybe prieš dabar veikiančius apskričių kultūros centrus. Autoriaus manymu, norint švelninti regioninių tapatumų iššūkius Valstybei, svarbiausia regioninių kultūros centrų misija turėtų būti reprezentuoti regiono tradicinę kultūrą, stiprinti regioninį identitetą. Tokie kultūros centrai turėtų užsiimti savo krašto etnografijos, folkloro, liaudies meno, tarmės puoselėjimu ir propagavimu, ugdyti savo krašto gyventojų regioninę savivoką ir vietinį patriotizmą, solidarumą ir subsidiarumą, stiprinti kaimo bendruomenes, kartu su savivaldybėmis ir regiono valdžia prisidėti prie turizmo savo regione vystymo. Tai būtų kultūrinės autonomijos elementų suteikimas Lietuvos etnografiniams regionams, ir tai turėtų silpninti atsirandančias politinio separatizmo tendencijas kai kuriuose regionuose. ENAfter the Government of the Republic of Lithuania passed a resolution to establish regional centres of culture, it became clear that the definition and vision of their activity among the culture activists is a highly diverse. In the article, the author expressed his opinion about the mission, functions and types of activity that should be undertaken by the centres of culture. The author criticises the prevailing opinion that regional centres of culture should not engage in any cultural, educational activity depending on personalities able for engaging in one type of work in one location, and another type in another. They should not imitate the already functioning centres of culture in the districts, and should differ from them only by their scale, or superiority. In the author’s opinion, in order to mitigate the challenges of regional identities to the government, the most important mission of the regional centres of culture should be the presentation of traditional regional culture, strengthening of the regional identity. Such centres of culture should engage in popularisation and promotion of their ethnography, folklore, folk art, dialect, to develop regional self awareness of residents in the area, and local patriotism, solidarity and subsidiarity, to strengthen rural communities, and to contribute together with municipalities and regional authorities to the development of tourism in their region. This would include granting of the autonomy elements for the ethnographic regions of Lithuania, and should suppress the rising trends of political separatism in some areas.
