ENThe archives of the Pontifical Polish College in Rome contain an abundance of documents pertaining to the history of the Church in Poland, which prove the Polish bishops’ hearty concern for the spiritual and intellectual formation of priests. The author presents thus-far unknown letters of Blessed George Matulaitis-Matulewicz, addressed to the Rector of the Pontifical Polish College in Rome, Fr. Jakub Jagałła, thanks to which we can now learn some aspects of Blessed George’s work as the bishop of Vilnius. The now-published letters belong to the period of 1923-1925, and are primarily concerned with priests from the Diocese of Vilnius or with matters of sending seminarians to study in Rome.
