ENFor many years, we have been familiar with Blessed George Matulewicz’s notes from 1911-1914, generally known as his Journal. Now a little diary–in the strictest sense of that word–comes as a very important supplement to it. Blessed George kept this diary from his arrival at Fribourg on July 31, 1911, until Aug. 12, 1912. There we find precise information regarding the events of the day, with mention of names and places. Also we learn from this diary the date on which Blessed George made his perpetual vows, how the Fribourg community lived out their monthly day of recollection, and how they prayed on the Day of All the Faithful Departed. The diary contains 70 hand-written pages. It was made recently available by a private collector, Sajauskas, from Marijampole. We now publish it here for the first time in Polish (its Latin original was previously published in the Ephemerides Marianorum 1(2012) pgs. 439-475).Blessed George wrote the diary in the third person: George Matulewicz arrived; he received a telegram, delivered a conference, celebrated Holy Mass, etc., which may make someone unfamiliar with Blessed George’s style wonder who was the author of this diary. Along with the diary, we publish the appeal of Bishop Stanisław Zdzitowiecki of Sept. 19, 1912, requesting the Marian Fathers’ assistance for the Paulines from Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, after crimes committed by Damazy Macoch. This information is also written in Matulewicz’s hand. The original is archived in Lietuvos Centrinis Valstybinis Archyvas (F 1674, inv. 2, vol. 49, f. 9-10). Both documents were copied from their original Latin and translated into Polish by Fr. Jan Bukowicz, MIC.
