Blessed George Matulewicz – religious
LTKunigų marijonų kongregacijos atnaujintojas – pal. Jurgis Matulaitis –pirmiausia buvo vyskupijos kunigas. Tačiau jo biografijoje aiškiai matoma, kad pal. Jurgis visada linko į religinį gyvenimą, rėmė konsekruotus asmenis, pats stengėsi gyventi pagal tam tikras dvasingumo taisykles, artimas religiniam gyvenimui. Tapęs Kunigų marijonų kongregacijos nariu, visą savo laiką skyrė pagrindiniam tikslui – vadovavimui savo bendruomenei. Šią veiklą marijonų bendruomenėje jis tęsė ir prieš savo valią konsekruotas Vilnius vyskupu, vėliau – Lietuvos Apaštališkuoju Vizitatoriumi. Visą gyvenimą arkivyskupas J. Matulaitis daug dirbo įvairių religinių ordinų bendruomenėms, redagavo jų religinio gyvenimo įstatus. Jis yra dviejų moterų vienuolijų – Švč. Mergelės Marijos Nekaltojo Prasidėjimo vargdienių seserų ir Jėzaus Eucharistijoje tarnaičių seserų –steigėjas. Jo gyvenimas ir tarnystė patvirtino religinių ordinų kaip esminių bažnyčios šventenybės elementų šventumą.
ENThe Renovator of the Congregation of Marian Fathers – Fr. George Matulewicz – was first a diocesan priest. However, his biography clearly indicates that he always possessed an inclination toward religious life, provided support to consecrated persons, and personally endeavored to live according to a specific form of spirituality in a manner similar to that of religious life. Having joined the Congregation of Marian Fathers, he subordinated all his activities to his main task, which was to guide this community. His work towards the development of the Marian community continued to be important to him, even when he was named – against his will – the bishop of Vilnius and later the Apostolic Visitator to Lithuania. During his lifetime, Archbishop Matulewicz was instrumental, in many ways, to the development of various religious orders, having also edited the religious rules for some orders. He founded two female religious congregations: Sisters of the Poor of the Immaculate Conception of the Most B.V.M. and Sisters Handmaid of Jesus in the Eucharist. His life and priestly service confirmed the sanctity of the religious orders as an essential element of the sanctity of the Universal Church.
