Alternative Title:
Blessed Archbishop George Matulaitis-Matulewicz (1871-1927)
Summary / Abstract:

ENDuring the beatification of Archbishop George Matulaitis-Matulewicz that took place June 28, 1987, in Rome, Pope John Paul II called him a true servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, fervent and tireless in fulfilling his pastoral ministry for the good of the People of God. The article presents Blessed George’s life from his birth until death. In a special way it emphasizes Blessed George’s time in the Diocese of Kielce, where he studied at the seminary and later taught Canon Law, philosophy, and Latin. He also ministered briefly at the parish of Daleszyce near Kielce. The author discusses subsequent periods of Blessed George’s life that involved youth ministry and social work in Warsaw, scholarly work at the Spiritual Academy in St. Petersburg, renovation of the Congregation of Marian Fathers, bishopric service in Vilnius, and work as Apostolic Visitator to Lithuania.
