ENIn order to facilitate and accelerate the non-final examination of student's knowledge, a computer program conditionally named KOLOKVIUM was created by using "Visual Basic 5" programming language. It was used in evaluating Vilnius University students' knowledge gained in the Map Compilation course. This program needs information about the student, his earlier tests' results, question and answer variants and illustrations. The program and all its data bases are coded. The code is available to students only on the day of the test, on other days it is invalid. After entering the code and completing the form student chooses the test level. By doing this the student is able to estimate his level of knowledge by himself before starting the test. After completing the form, the program recalls the results of previous tests. The program wouldn't let taking higher stage tests until all the previous tests are done. The questions and illustrations are chosen using RND function which generates a random question number. To guess what the question will be is almost impossible. The chosen questions are shown on the screen. In 60 seconds, student has to pick up the right answer and indicate it. The results of the test are shown on the screen. The non-final as well as final test marks are counted according to formulas No. 1 and No. 2. The results are fixed in different files or transferred for protection to dean's office. Analysis of 40 test results allows the folio- , wing conclusions: Student's knowledge can be quickly and effectively tested using the computer program KOLOKVIUM, and the time used for answering a question can be shortened to 30 sec. It is necessary to refuse selection of the test level, because students cannot evaluate their knowledge adequately. When counting the final mark it is important not to aproximmate it mathematical, but take only the whole part. Then the final mark will be objective enough and indicate the real level of student's knowledge. This program could be used for testing and estimating the knowledge of students of other specialities but the data base of questions and answers should be changed.
