Summary / Abstract:

ENIn his article the author examines the impact of Swedenborg's thought on the poetry of Czesław Miłosz. Dąbrowski describes the influence of the Renaissance theory of signatures on the poetic practice of the author of "The Land of Ulro" and on his eschatological imagination and concept of language. Through the theory of Swedenborg, Miłosz embeds his archaic-magical conception of the word, which in his case has a deep connection with the eschatological imagination of a poet associated with the concept of apocatastasis. According to Jacob Böhme, Paracelsus and Swedenborg, signatures record all events and states of being. Dąbrowski, led by Miłosz, describes the linguistic assimilation in the context of the theories of Swedenborg's writings of Michel Foucault (The Order of Things), Giorgio Agamben (The Signature of All Things), Martin Heidegger (Poetically Man Dwells...), Ray Brassier (Nihil Unbound) and Alain Badiou (Being and Event). In this light, Swedenborg's theory becomes the antidote to the ontological and epistemological fears of modernity.
