Summary / Abstract:

LTTai antras straipsnis iš ciklo „Pradžios knygos 1–4 sk. vertimas ir leksikografinės pastabos“ (pradžia: „Lituanistika“, t. 60, Nr. 1), kuriame šįkart pateikiamas naujas literatūrinis Pr 2,4–25 teksto vertimas iš biblinės hebrajų kalbos, jį (kaip ir Pr 1,1–2,3 ištraukoje) pagrindžiant paraidiniu interlinijiniu vertimu bei leksikografinėmis pastabomis. ENThis article is a continuation of the articles set, initiated with the translation of the creation account in Gen 1,1–2,3 (cf. "Lituanistica", Vol. 60, No. 1). Actually the new translation of the Gen 2,4–25 from biblical Hebrew into Lithuanian is proposed, which is justified by the interlinear rendering of the text from one language to other as well as by the lexicographical notes. The archaic language of ch. 2 demanded from the translators a special attention to the peculiarity of the expressions, transporting the meaning of which to the different linguistic situation is always a challenge. The point is to synchronize in an optimal way the primal criteria of the original text with the possibilities of the modern language as well as modern thinking. The process of translation, on the other hand, inevitably leads to the confrontation with the traditional translation variants, breaking with which by no means is not simple. Perhaps the most expressive example in the Gen 2,4–25 is a syntagma [...] (v. 8). Traditionally in modern versions it is understood as a geographic indication and is rendered with "a garden toward the East", "in Eden" or similar. However, the richness of the original language, as is observed in the lexicographical notes, suggests the diverse possible meaning in this case. Such openness must be held concerning also other particular expressions or words, the meaning of which is questionable. Of course, choosing one or other different rendering of the text does not mean the pretention to excavate its meaning definitely. In the article, even if the "final points" are put on in the text version to Lithuanian which is proposed, translators remain with many issues. For that in it the discussion atmosphere is maintained.
