Exploring modern foodways: history, nature, and culture in the Baltic States
LTŽurnalo „Journal of Baltic studies“ specialiojo numerio įvadiniame straipsnyje apžvelgiami publikuojami straipsniai, analizuojantys mitybos ir maisto kultūros Estijoje, Latvijoje ir Lietuvoje XX-XXI a. klausimus: kaip per maistą palaikyti etniniai, tautiniai ir klasiniai skirtumai, kaip imperijos ir valstybės režimas keitė žemės ūkį ir aprūpinimą maistu, kaip per skirtingą maisto paruošimą ir skirtingą patiekalų istorinį kontekstą buvo iš naujo atrandamos skirtingos tapatybės. Straipsniuose į maistą žiūrima plačiai: maistas padeda nagrinėti socialinę istoriją, politiką kultūrą; taip pat maistas – tai įsigalėjusios praktikos ir išgyventos patirtys bei materialus ryšys tarp žmogaus kūno ir gamtos. Leidinyje dominuoja tarpdisciplininė tyrimų prieiga, kuri laiko maistą didelių gamtos ir istorijos ciklų dalimi. Paskelbti straipsniai prisideda ir plečia seną tyrimų tradiciją, nagrinėjančią maistą ir kasdienybę Baltijos šalių regione. Tokių tyrimų pagrindinės kryptys – etnologija, istorija, literatūros studijos ir tarpdisciplininiai socialiniai mokslai (antropologija, geografija, politologija ir sociologija). Vis dėlto pažymima, jog tyrimuose apie maistą pasigendama glaudesnio skirtingų disciplinų atstovų bendradarbiavimo. ENThe introductory article of the special edition of Journal of Baltic Studies provides an overview of published articles analysing issues associated with nutrition and food cultures in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the XX-XXI centuries: how was food used in order to maintain ethnic, national and classical differences, how had the regime of the empire and country changed agriculture and food provision, how through different food preparation techniques and different historical context of the dishes were different identities rediscovered. The articles regard food extensively: food helps to analyse social history, politics, culture; also food is associated with practice of the past, experience and material connection between the human body and nature. The publication is dominated by interdisciplinary access to research, which views food as part of a major natural and historical cycle. The published articles contribute to and expand the old tradition of research on food and everyday life in the Baltic region. The main directions of such research are ethnology, history, literary studies and interdisciplinary social sciences (anthropology, geography, political science, and sociology). However, it is noted that researches on food lack closer cooperation between representatives of different disciplines. Therefore, it is expected that this publication will stimulate the collaboration between scientists and motivate them to carry out a broad and deep analysis of the Baltic nutrition and food culture.
