Summary / Abstract:

LTŽydų spauda sekė senąsias dar XIX a. nusistovėjusias tradicijas, kol 1928 m. mėnesinio žurnalo „Di yidishe velt“ leidėjai iškėlė naujus standartus, turėjusius pagerinti žydų spaudos kokybę. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Jidiš spauda Vilniuje; Jidiš žurnalistika; Žydų Bundo žurnalistika; Žydų apšvietos (Haskalah) žurnalistika; Žydų spauda Vilniuje; Žydų žurnalistika; Žydų žurnalistika, žydų spauda, Vilnius, žurnalai jidiš kalba, bibliotekos; Bundist journalism; Haskalah journalism; Jewish journalism; Jewish journalism, Jewish press, Vilnius, Yiddish journals, libraries; The Jewish press in Vilnius; The Yiddish press in Vilnius; Yiddish journalism.

ENThe Jewish press followed traditions established in the 19th century until the publishers of the monthly journal "Di yidishe velt" created new standards, which were supposed to increase the quality of the Jewish press. While expressing respect for the predecessors, they suggested new journalistic traditions to better engage the readers. The article answers the questions – why was there a need for new standards for the Jewish press? How did they change? Which journalistic traditions were abandoned? What problems did the Jewish press face in this period and how were they solved? Why was 1928 the crucial year for change? The investigation revealed that modern principles of the Jewish press were to educate the readers and to cultivate their morals, whereas the Middle European or Anglo-Saxon press tried to inform the people about important events, and not to educate. When the Jewish press reached its peak in 1928, there appeared a need to change the relations between readers and publishers, because the Jews, compared to other nations, knew little about politics, national and global economy, theatre, art and other global topics. Building on the old traditions of the Jewish press, it was decided to actively inform the readers about global events and to motivate them to take up a more active role in society. Since 1928, the Jewish press not only had an important role in the Jewish nation, but also became its mirror image.
