Summary / Abstract:

LTPublikacijoje gvildenamos Šventojo Rašto vertimo ir interpretacijos problemos. Pirmoje straipsnio dalyje pristatomos dvi pagrindinės Pr I, I–3a hermeneutinės kryptys, antroje pateikiama sava hipotezė. Darbe aptariami du pagrindiniai Pr I, I–3a vertimo būdai — tradicinis ir modernusis. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Biblijos vertimas; Pasaulio sukūrimas ex nihilo; Pradžios knyga; Creation of world ex nihilo; Genesis; Traduction of Bible; Translation of the Bible.

ENThe publication addresses the problems of translation and interpretation of the Bible. The first part of the article presents two main hermeneutical trends of the Genesis I, I-3a, and the second one presents a hypothesis. The work discusses two main ways of translating the Genesis I, I-3a: traditional and modern. It explains why the same text is translated in two different ways which conflict with each other. The interpretation section provides insights into one of the most significant, but also the most difficult texts of the Old Testament. It is stated that two different ways of translation have led to two different interpretations. According to the first hypothesis, chaos is a direct consequence and a result. In other words, the primal chaos was created by the Lord himself. According to the second hypothesis, the initial turmoil of the world existed entirely self-sufficiently and independently of the work of the creator God. By suggesting his own interpretation, the author of this article states that literary and historical contexts are important for a deeper perception. The first one is important for specification of the translation, and the second one is for interpretation of it. If it is not possible to decide on translation and interpretation solely on the basis of linguistic arguments, it is appropriate to use a context that has not been fully evaluated so far. The conclusions state that the modern translation tradition does not convey word combinations by letter, but by meaning, thus providing an opportunity to specify the content. The disclosure of historical circumstances makes it possible to better understand theological insights.
