ENThe Lithuanian Women’s Party (Lietuvos moterų partija) was registered on April 21, 1995, under the leadership of professor and former prime minister (1990–1991) Kazimira Prunskienė and Kaunas businesswoman Dalia Teišerskytė. At the time of the registration, the party had 700 members. By the second party congress in 1996, 193 delegates represented 30 local branches of the party, while the overall number of members reached 1,130. At the elections for the Seimas (i.e., parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania in 1996, Kazimira Prunskienė was the only member from the Women’s Party elected, and at the municipal elections in 1997, fourteen party members made it into office. To attract more voters, the Lithuanian Women’s Party reorganized into the New Democracy – Women’s Party in 1998. In 2001, it merged with the Lithuanian Peasants’ Party, creating the Farmers’ and New People’s Party, which was renamed the Union of Democratic Parties. Finally, it became the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens in 2012.
