Students' tolerance towards ethnic minorities and immigrants in Lithuania and its development at the Lithuanian university of agriculture

LTStraipsnyje analizuojama studentų tolerancija įvairioms etninėms mažumoms ir imigrantams, remiantis socialinio tyrimo, kuriame dalyvavo pirmo ir antro kurso lietuvių tautybės studentai, kilę iš kaimo ir miesto, rezultatais. Tyrimas atliktas atsižvelgiant į 2003 m. Europos tolerancijos tyrimo direktyvines pastabas antrajam etapui. Straipsnyje pateikiama statistinė ir kokybinė studentų nuomonių apie kitataučius, jiems būdingas ir nebūdingas savybes, elgseną ir jos priežastis, kultūrinius skirtumus, teigiamą indėlį, priemones, nukreiptas prieš diskriminaciją, bei galimus jų problemų sprendimo būdus analizė. Šio darbo tikslas yra siekimas siaurinti nepasitikėjimo ribas tarp lietuvių ir kitataučių bei imigrantų, mažinti ksenofobijos laipsnį, tikintis geresnio tarpusavio supratimo ir tolerancijos, bei numatyti gaires jaunimo ugdymui, ruošiant jį gyvenimui daugiakultūrinėje terpėje. Gauti rezultatai yra lyginami ne tik su Lietuvos socialinių tyrimų instituto anksčiau atliktų tyrimų duomenimis, bet ir su Didžiosios Britanijos, Vokietijos ir Italijos studentų nuomonėmis.

ENPresent paper concerns the survey of tolerance towards ethnic minorities arid interculturai competence of first and second year students of the University and is directed at the magistral staff of educational institutions. This work follows the European Tolerance Survey – Phase Two (Module 10) which was carried out by Knowsley Community College in Great Britain in 2003 as a part of Socrates project. The article adduces the statistical and qualitative data of students' opinions about other nationaJities: their characteristic features, cultural diversity, causes of behaviour, positive contributions, measures to be provided against discrimination, ways of solution problems. It aims to narrow the credibility gap between the Lithuanians, ethnic minorities, and immigrants, to reduce xenophobia, to bring about greater tolerance and understanding, and prepare humans for future contacts. The results obtained were compared with those presented in the Report on European Tolerance Survey – Phase Two (completed in May 2003) and with the data of Lithuanian Institute for Social Research (www.sti.lt/leidij)ristat/Tekstai/europa/VI_daIis.pdf).
