ENLiterature researcher Greta Lisauskaitė reviews early and late work by the emigré poet Algimantas Mackus (1932-1964), poetry where he goes deep into the theme of the search for God, contemplating the not met and not found image of God. Cultural layers, folklore and religion, reflecting the consciousness of existential man, are intertwined in the poetry in a masterly way. The article notes the main aspects that allow for an understanding of what kind of importance God has in the work of Mackus, what kind of interconnection there is, and how it is revealed in his poetry. In addition to the search for God, the themes of loneliness, longing, doubt and disappointment, and feelings of love for the homeland, are also found in his work.
