LTStanislovas Ščigielskis (Stanisław Szczygielski, 1616–1687) – žymiausias istorikas tarp benediktinų vienuolių senojoje Žečpospolitoje. Baigęs Vilniaus universitetą, didelę gyvenimo dalį jis praleido Senuosiuose Trakuose, kur benediktinai, pakviesti Lietuvos didžiojo kunigaikščio Vytauto, įsikūrė apie 1405 m. Vienas iš S. Ščigelskio veikalų, atspausdintas 1668 m. Krokuvoje lotynų kalba, vadinosi „Series et notitia trocensium abbatum ordinis s. benedicti“. Jis buvo skirtas benediktinų Trakų abatijos istorijai. Šiuolaikinio lenkų istoriko Rafalo Vitkovskio (Rafał Witkowski) parengtoje publikacijoje šio veikalo tekstas lotynų kalba skelbiamas iš naujo. R. Vitkovskio mokslinio teksto įvade paaiškinama, kodėl verta iš naujo publikuoti XVII a. istoriografinį tekstą, svarstomi kai kurie bendrieji istorijos šaltinių likimo klausimai, atsižvelgiant į pasikeitusias sąlygas paplitus kompiuteriams ir skaitmeninėms technologijoms. I skyriuje apžvelgiama benediktinų abatijos Senuosiuose Trakuose istorija. II skyriuje aptariami bendrieji benediktinų istorijos klausimai nuo Tridento bažnytinio susirikimo iki lenkų šv. Kryžiaus kongregacijos sukūrimo. III skyriuje – S. Ščigielskio gyvenimas ir veikla, pateikiamas jo publikacijų ir rankraščių bibliografinis sąrašas. Šaltinio publikacija sudaro IV, baigiamąjį skyrių – su R. Vitkovskio komentarais ir paaiškinimais, kurie pateikiami išnašose. Istoriografinio šaltinio ir jo atsiradimo sąlygas paaiškinančio teksto publikacija yra juo labiau vertinga, kadangi nei apie S. Ščigielskį, nei apie benediktinų Trakų abatiją monografijų iki šiol nėra.
ENStanislaw Szczygielski (1616-1687) – the most prominent historian between the Benedictine monks in the old Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. After graduating from Vilnius University, he spent a part of the life in Senieji Trakai, where Benedictine were invited by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas and settled there about 1405. One of the Szczygielski's works in Latin "Series et notitia trocensium abbatum ordinis s. benedicti" was printed in 1668, Krakow and was dedicated to the history of the Trakai Benedictine Abbey. A modern Polish historian Rafal Witkowski publishes the text in Latin anew in his publication. In the introduction of the scientific text R. Witkowski explains why it is worth republishing the 17th-century historiographic text, discusses some of the general issues of the historical sources fate regarding to the changed conditions due to the boom of computers and digital technologies. Chapter I gives an overview of history of the Trakai Benedictine Abbey. Chapter II discusses the general issues of the Benedictine history from the Council of Trent until the establishment of the Congregation of Polish Holly Cross. Chapter III discusses the life and activities of S. Szczygielski, provides a bibliographic list of his publications and manuscripts. The final Chapter IV contains the source of the publication with the comments and explanations of R. Witkowski, which are given in the footnotes. The publication of the text explaining the historiographic source and its occurrence conditions is even more valuable, since yet there are no published monographs neither about S. Szczygielski, nor the Trakai Benedictine Abbey.
