ENNowadays foreign language knowledge as social means of action is the integral part of social development. Due to the movement of workforce in the European Union and more rapid European integration process, the knowledge of foreign languages for special purposes become more important. Special languages are used by specialists to communicate information which relates to their special field of interest. A special language is characterized by a lexis which is subject-specific as well as by a tendency to use certain morphological or syntactic means of general language more frequently. The results of the research confirm that potential engineering specialists should have specific language knowledge for successful employment in European Union market. The main aspects of the Leonardo da Vinci mobility project "Development of Diagnostic Tools for the Evaluation of Engineering Foreign Language Competences at European Language Standard Level" are introduced, the research results about EU employers' attitude, concerning potential engineering specialists' specific foreign language competence, are presented.
