Eduardo Balsio stiliaus formavimasis (1950-1965)

LTEduardo Balsio kūryboje galima įžvelgti tris netolygiai išsidėsčiusius etapus, kurie vaizdingai atspindi jo kūrybos evoliuciją: gana greitą braižo kaitą kūrybinio kelio pradžioje ir neskubotą savo patirties gilinimą antroje gyvenimo pusėje. Tai būtų 1950-1958, 1958-1965 ir 1965-1984 metai. Nuo Eduardo Balsio mirties mus skiria jau penkiolika metų. Ir šis atstumas leidžia pažvelgti į jo kūrybos kelią iš tam tikros perspektyvos, aptarti ją mūsų dienų kontekste. Kompozitoriui teko gyventi ir kurti sovietmečiu, todėl kai kurie jo kūrybos šaltiniai bei impulsai buvo nutylimi arba aiškinami atsižvelgiant į nusistovėjusį ideologinį standartą. Reikia pastebėti, kad ne vienas, vėliau būdingas jo kūrybos bruožas dėl aplinkos bei susiklosčiusių sąlygų įtakos formavosi anksčiau. Tad E. Balsio kūrybos ištakų turime ieškoti būtent jaunystės metuose (jo kūrybos pradžia sutapo su vadinamojo „tautinio romantizmo“ stilistikos įsiviešpatavimu). Kiekvienas kūrinys buvo rašomas ilgai ir kruopščiai, apgalvojus kiekvieną detalę. Vėliau, pradėjęs eiti novatoriškais keliais, kompozitorius stabtelėjo ties tais reiškiniais, kurie griovė tradicinę muzikos kūrinio struktūrą, ir jų priimti negalėjo ir nenorėjo. Šio straipsnio tikslas – apžvelgti E. Balsio kūrybos ištakas ir, remiantis dviem pirmais kūrybos etapais, aptarti jo estetinių pažiūrų formavimąsi bei kūrybos evoliuciją, išryškinti kai kuriuos mažiau žinomus kūrybinės biografijos momentus.

ENThe author analyses the works by Eduardas Balsys written in 1950-1965, the years when some salient features in music of the composer were formed and prepared the mature period in his creation. The period of 1950-1965 consists of two distinct stages in composer's life, 1950-1957 and 1958-1965. They are clearly reflected in the evolution of his works, from frequent changes in style during the early years to gradual accumulation of skills and expertise during the later years (1965-1984). E. Balsys was essentially self-taught; he gained the professional music education in conservatory. His early experiments in light entertainment music influenced his later works and determined the broad range of their genres. On his creative path E. Balsys would often return to simple-structured songs and genres of popular music. E. Balsys starte d composing during the years when the so-called 'national romanticism' was becoming the dominant style. After 1948 it became the only tolerated stylistic trend in music. It can be discerned in E. Balsys' earliest works, especially the one for String Quartet. In his First Violin Concerto (1957), however, E. Balsys clearly attempted to break the steady routine and moved away from frequent references to folklore. He became familiar with Richard Strauss, Witold Lutosławski, Bela Bartok. L. van Beethoven became his example to be follwed in handling of the thematic material. Besides the compositions of other genres, the second stage of his creative path was marked by two very distinct works still enjoying wide popularity, the Second Violin Concerto and a ballet Eglė žalčių karalienė (Eglė, The Queen of the Grass-Snakes). The works stand out due to the new attitude to folklore, their innovative structure of the music cycle, refusal of the chords based on thirds. The concise manner of composition indicated composer's turn to nco-classicism.
