Mūšio laukas - Pabaltijys
LTStraipsnis pirmiau pasirodė anglų kalba kaip įvadas Latvijos istorikų komisijos 2005 m. parengtai knygai „The Hidden and Forbidden History of Latvia under Soviet and Nazi Occupations 1940–1941“ („Paslėpta ir uždrausta sovietų ir nacių okupuotos Latvijos 1940–1990 m. istorija“). XX a. 5 deš. Lietuvos, Latvijos ir Estijos gyventojams buvo sukrėtimų, permainų ir kančių laikas. Po Pirmojo pasaulinio karo Europos žemėlapyje pasirodžiusios trys naujos valstybės vienos kartos laikotarpiu pajėgė sukurti modernias, savimi pasitikinčias nacijas. Bet tuoj po to jos, kaip Antrojo pasaulinio karo mūšio laukas, sulaukė kelių viena po kitos sekusių okupacijų, kurios vis labiau ir labiau luošino socialinius ir emocinius solidarumo jausmus. Karo baimė, deportacijos, koncentracijos stovyklos, masinės egzekucijos, žydų Holokausto siaubas, priverstinė emigracija, tuos, kurie liko, kankinusi baimė – visa tai palietė ir daugiau nei šešis milijonus šio regiono gyventojų. Tik po 1990 m., kai šios šalys atkūrė savo nepriklausomybę, išlikusieji ir jų vaikai bei vaikaičiai galėjo bent jau pradėti aiškinti šio niūraus dešimtmečio, kai Pabaltijo gyventojai negalėjo kontroliuoti savo istorijos, prigimtį ir pasekmes. Šios esė tikslas yra punktyriškai nuženklinti trijų Baltijos respublikų bendras patirtis Antrajame pasauliniame kare ir tuoj po jo, o kiti rinkinio darbai išsamiau išanalizuos Latvijos padėtį ir jos patirtis šiuo laikotarpiu. Esė nepretenduoja pateikti išbaigto pasakojimo ir istorijos. Pagrindinis jos tikslas yra išryškinti sovietinio režimo pobūdį ir Holokausto prielaidas.
ENThe article first appeared in English as an introduction to a book that was created by the commission of Latvian historians in 2005 and called "The Hidden and produced a book of Forbidden History of Latvia under Soviet and Nazi Occupations of 1940-1941". The 5th decade of the XX century was the time of changes and suffering for Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians. The three new states have been able to create modern, self-confident nations for one generation after appearing on the map of Europe after the First World War. However, they were occupied soon after that because they became the battlefields of the Second World War and that destroyed their social and feelings of solidarity. Fear of war, deportation, concentration camps, mass executions, fear of the Jewish Holocaust, forced emigration and fear, which made people suffer if they stayed, had an impact on more than 6 million lives in this region. Only after when these countries regained their independence in 1990, the survivors and their children and grandchildren were able at least begin to explain the nature and consequences of this dark decade when people that lived in the Baltic region were not able to control their history. The purpose of this essay is to mark the combined experience of the three Baltic republics in the Second World War and shortly after it, while the other parts of the set will analyze in more detail the situation in Latvia and its experience in this period. Essay does not claim to present a complete narrative and story. Its main objective is to highlight the nature of the Soviet regime and the premises of the Holocaust.
