Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje aptariama 1604 m. Be to, panašus jo panegirinių, dedikacinių tekstų stilius.

ENThe article discusses the problem of the author of the Sapphic hymn ode “Odarion”, created on the occasion of canonization of St. Casimirus in 1604. The Greek Odarion could not be ascribed to Gregory Svencicki, since it would also be in conflict with both the historical facts (Svencicki was a participant of the solemnity, but not the organizer of its literary part) and the composition of the publication: the poem was printed as a quote in a panegyric with a separate heading, the author of which is Austrian author Quirinus Cnogler, who, when quoting the poem both did not specify its author and left several hints, which raise doubts. On one hand, he stated that he loved the Greek language since childhood (thus, chances are, he contributed to creation of “Odarion”), on the other, he was not inclined to keep his authorship secret (he mentions his Latin eulogy). Any doubts regarding the authenticity of the person of Quirinus Cnogler are erased by his other works, stating his academic status. In addition, the style of his panegyric and dedicational texts is similar. The relation between Cnogler and Laurentius Boyer (another potential creator), i. e. the question if one could have published his works on behalf of the other, also remain unresolved. Another claimant to the authorship of “Odarion” could be a professor and/or student and/or group of students of rhetoric or poetry of Vilnius University or the entire Vilnius Academy in a broad sense. The similarities of lexis allow for comparison of the author of “Odarion” with Jonas Krajkovskis, the student of the course of rhetoric of the time, however Cnogler’s "filheleniškumas" and Boyer’s inclination to mask himself are still significant indicators, allowing for ascribing the said text to both of them.
