The Realization of space relations in English (in comparison with Lithuanian) : disertacija

LTŠios disertacijos objektas – erdvės santykių raiškos būdai anglų ir lietuvių kalbose (inesyvas, iliatyvas ir eliatyvas), jų semantiniai, sintaksiniai bei pragmatiniai aspektai. Disertacijos tikslas – sugretinti inesyvo, iliatyvo ir eliatyvo semantines, struktūrines ir sintaksines bei pragmatines ypatybes anglų ir lietuvių kalbose. Darbas yra kompleksinis ir gretinamojo pobūdžio: nagrinėjama erdvės santykių anglų ir lietuvių kalbose realizacija, jų sintaksiniai bei pragmatiniai aspektai. Disertacijoje nuo reikšmės aprašymo pereinama prie jos raiškos formų. Toks modelis koreliuoja su komunikacijos prigimtimi: pirmiausia suformuluojama mintis, po to ieškoma būdų ją išreikšti. Šis tyrimo būdas suteikia galimybę atskleisti sudėtingą semantinių ir gramatinių mikrosistemų tarpusavio santykių mechanizmą. Disertacija yra pirmasis bandymas taikyti aprašymo modelį reikšmė → forma gretinamuoju aspektu. Šis gretinamojo pobūdžio darbas paremtas duomenimis, gautais analizuojant erdvės funkcijų raiškos būdus anglų ir lietuvių kalbose. Didžioji dalis pavyzdžių surinkta iš anglų kalbos tekstų ir jų vertimų į lietuvių kalbą. Be to, remtasi ir originaliais šaltiniais (ne vertimais). Tokia medžiaga suteikia galimybę išsamiau nusakyti tai, kaip abiejose gretinamose kalbose funkcionuoja adverbialiniai elementai. Atliktas darbas papildo tuos anglų ir lietuvių kalbų sakinio tyrinėjimus, kuriuose šis vienetas suvokiamas kaip semantinių, sintaksinių ir pragmatinių funkcijų sąveikos rezultatas. [Iš leidinio]

ENThe object of this dissertation are the methods of the expression of the relation of space in English and Lithuanian (inessive, illative, and elative), and their semantic, syntactal and pragmatic aspects. The aim of this dissertation is to compare the semantic, structural and syntactical and pragmatic aspects of the inessive, illative, and elative cases in Lithuanian and English. This work is complex and of a comparative nature: the realisation of the relation of space in English and Lithuanian is examined, along with their syntactic and pragmatic aspects. The dissertation moves from a description of its meaning to the forms of its expression. This kind of model correlates with the nature of communication: first of all a thought is formulated, and afterwards ways are looked for to express it. This method of research provides the possibility to reveal the complex mechanism of the relationship betwen semantic and grammatical microsystems. This dissertation is the first attempt to employ the descriptive model meaning → form with a comparative aspect. This comparative work is supported by data, received by analysing the methods of the expression of the functions of space in English and Lithuanian. The greater part of the examples have been chosen from English texts and their translations into Lithuanian, but also based on original sources (non-translated material). This kind of material provides the possibility to more comprehensively define how the adverbial elements function in both languages. The work carried out supplement research of English and Lithuanian sentences, where this unit is understood as the result of the interaction of semantic, syntactical and pragmatic functions.
