ENComprehensive education of a personality is one of the most important tasks of the evangelical mission of the Church. Throughout the history, the Church is trying to find and underline the archetypal features of its educational mission, taking into account the pastoral challenges of the times. Catholic education is comprehensively discussed in a number of Church documents: Pope Pius XI Encyclical Letter "On Christian Education of Young People" (1929), Second Vatican Council's Declaration "Gravissimum Educationis" (1965), the sacred congregation for Catholic education documents "Catholic School"(I977), "The Religious Dimension of Education in a Catholic School" (1988), "The Catholic School on the Threshold of the Third Millennium" (1997), etc. Scientific catholic education literature of Lithuania is not rich. S. Šalkauskis, A. Maceina, P. Dovydaitis, and A Jakštas-Dambrauskas used to write on this subject more in interwar times. O. Tijūnėlienė, S. Dzenuškaitė, A. Stasiulevičiūtė, E. Martišauskienė, and V. Vainilavičiūtė can be distinguished among current educologists for their research projects and pedagogical articles. These projects and articles mostly analyze the specific aspects of Catholic education. The goal of this paper is to reveal the conception of the Catholic school based on educational provisions of Church's Magisterium. The o bject of investigation - Catholic school. Tasks of investigation - to highlight school's role in the Catholic education process; to reveal the features of a Catholic school. The methods of analysis and metaanalysis of scientific literature and Church documents were used in the investigation. The results show that the school takes an exclusive place in activities of the Church mission. As the most important factor of personality education, it helps families to carry out the natural duty of children training and education and complements its educational work. Through integration into the process of comprehensive education of a personality, the Church presents a model of a Catholic school. The basis for existence of the Catholic school is a free self-determination of parents to train and educate their children in accordance with their worldview and beliefs. The Catholic nature of the school (its religious dimension) is revealed in the following ways: education climate - a unique school environment where the idea of the Gospel transfuses all educational elements; personal education of each student - the school is a place where a personality is comprehensively trained in accordance with a coherent plan of education, the basis of which is Christ; culture and Gospel relationship - the school, as intermediate between faith and culture, interprets and classifies the human culture in the light of faith; founding knowledge on faith - the school follows universally accepted modern educational programs, thus presents them in a universally religious perspective and declares that faith and scientific knowledge should not conflict, because both have originated from the same source - the God. The Catholic school plays an important role in development of a person as a Christian. This is why religious training and religious development in this academic community takes an exclusive place and is an integrated part of the pedagogical duty. Taking into consideration the secularization of the modern world, it should be stated that such schools are needed today more than ever. [From the publication]
