Summary / Abstract:

ENIn the middle of the 50s N.Chrushchiov declared principles of the "new" architecture. About the same time nowadays well-known architects and Vytautas Čekanauskas among them began their activities. In the 60s one of his works - Art Exhibition Pa'ace in Vilnius - became thesis of his creative activities. Though one can note the influence of Alvar Alt, there are seen trails of both North and South architecture. The complicated relationship between exterior and interior space VČekanauskas explained in two following projects. In the building of Agriculture Economic Institute attention is concentrated on relation between generalized architectural masses and the outer space. In the Central Comitee Chamber the idea of forming the struetur around the yard is prolonged. Theme of reflective, articulated yard is developed in later, yet not realized projects: the Railway Station and the Music Academy. There, under the influence of postmodernism, the retrospective elements are found. They became part of "neorationalistic" language in the Music Academy project. VČekanauskas designed some works having almost no relations with the thesical building. These anomalie projects are diverse from the stylistic point of view: from structuralism in Lit-Expo palace (project) to retrospective eclecticism in St. John Bosck church project. I’m inclined to accent the buildings of the first group (connected with the thesis), cause they create the common being of works, which are capable to reveal the uniformity of logocentric thinking.
