LTRecenzijoje aptariama Jurgitos Giparaitės monografija „Neveiksmažodiniai nepilnieji šalutiniai sakiniai anglų ir lietuvių kalbose“ tiria daiktavardines ir būdvardines nepilnųjų šalutinių sakinių struktūras anglų ir lietuvių kalbose ('Visi jį laikė doru žmogumi'. 'Everybody considered him an honest man'). Tokių konstrukcijų sintaksinė analizė kelia tam tikrų problemų: pirmiausia tai, jog daiktavardinė frazė ('jį' –) turi tam tikrų subjekto bruožų; antra, struktūrą sudarančių kompenentų – 'jį' (NP1) ir antriniu predikatu einančio 'doru žmogumi' (NP2) sintaksiniai ryšiai nėra lengvai nustatomi ir randantys vietą bendrame sintakstiniame-semantiniame kontekste. Pagrindinis tyrimo autorės uždavinys yra palyginti konstrukcijas anglų ir lietuvių kalbose ir parodyti, kad nepilnųjų šalutinių sakinių analizės teorija, teigianti, jog tarp NP1 ir NP2 egzistuoja predikatinis ryšys bei kad šios struktūros funkcionuoja kaip sakiniai, galioja ne tik anglų, bet ir lietuvių kalboje. Recenzento pastebėjimu, skelbiant monografiją disertacijos pagrindu reikėjo iš esmės peržiūrėti jos struktūrą, atsisakyti kai kurių formaliųjų dalių (ginamieji teiginiai; teorinė ir praktinės disertacijos vertė). Nors darbo pobūdis yra lyginamoji angliškų ir lietuviškų konstrukcijų analizė, lietuvių kalbos medžiagos ypatumams vertėjo skirti daugiau dėmesio, kadangi šiuolaikinių sintaksės teorijų kontekste jos reiškiniai yra iš esmės neaprašyti. ENThe review discusses Jurgita Giparaitė's monograph "The non-verbal type of small clauses in English and Lithuanian", which analyses noun and adjectival structures of incomplete subordinate sentences in Lithuanian and English ('Visi jį laikė doru žmogumi'. 'Everybody considered him an honest man)'. A syntactic analysis of such constructions raises certain problems: first of all, the noun phrase ('jį') has certain features of a subject; second, the syntactic relations between the components of the structure, i.e. "jį" (NP1) and 'doru žmogumi' (NP2), which is the secondary predicate, are not easily defined. The main goal of the author's research is to compare the constructions in English and Lithuanian and to demonstrate that the theory of the analysis of incomplete subordinate clauses claiming that there is a predicative link between NP1 and NP2 and that these structures function as sentences, is relevant not only with regard to English but also with regard to the Lithuanian language. The reviewer notes that before announcing the monograph to be the grounds for a thesis, the author had to extensively review its structure and refuse certain formal elements (persuasive statements, theoretical and practical value of the thesis). Although the work is a comparative analysis of English and Lithuanian constructions, more attention should be paid to peculiarities of the Lithuanian language, since, within the context of contemporary syntax theories, its phenomena have not been extensively described. Irrespective of the above, the monograph fills in the gap in Lithuanian syntax studies, and its material has been made available to the global community of linguists.
