LTĮmonių atskleista finansinė informacija yra dažnas tyrimo objektas įvairų sričių moksliniuose darbuose. Tais atvejais, kai reikalingas šios informacijos kokybinis apibendrinimas, sisteminimas bei įvertinimas, susiduriama su tyrimo metodo bei instrumento pasirinkimo bei panaudojimo problemomis.
ENCorporate financial information disclosure is extensively analyzed in accounting and financial scientific literature. Analysis of scientific literature revealed that only in some of the cases the quantitative values are employed. More often research requires qualitative valuation of disclosed information. In such cases the amount, content or form of the disclosed information need to be measured, compared and evaluated. The aim of this paper is to examine qualitative corporate financial disclosure valuation methods and to identify the issues of their practical application. Analysis of scientific literature revealed two directions of the qualitative valuation of the financial disclosure. A number of papers are aimed to evaluate the disclosed information and its characteristics. In some others – evaluation of the disclosed financial information helps to reach the goal of the paper, such as identify factors that influence disclosure, or assess the impact of the disclosure to the company or financial market. In all the cases the issue of deciding on the most appropriate research method and research instrument is essential to the results and quality of the research.Analysis of the previously conducted research methodologies reveals that five major methods for qualitative financial disclosure valuation have been used: disclosure index method, thematic content analysis, readability studies, linguistic analysis, and subjective ratings method. Disclosure index method may be singled out as the mostly employed method. However analysis of the scientific literature as well as own previous experience requires to notify that the qualitative financial disclosure valuation methods should be used with caution as inter-company, inter-industry and inter-country differences as well as changes over time have to be taken into the account.
