Developing employability skills through language teaching

LTAukštosios mokyklos efektyvumą rodo jos absolventų įsidarbinimo perspektyvos. Šių dienų visuomenei atsiveriančios naujos galimybės bei iššūkiai reikalauja pokyčių ir švietimo srityje.Kadangi išsilaikyti šioje erdvėje galima tik būnant konkurencingu, aukštasis mokslas turi keistis atsižvelgiant į nuolat darbo įgūdžiams didėjančius reikalavimus. Straipsnyje nagrinėjamos galimybės ugdyti darbui reikalingus įgūdžius (kritišką ir kūrybinį mąstymą, gebėjimą analizuoti, sintezuoti, spręsti problemas, bendrauti, pritaikyti savo žinias, savarankiškumą ir t. t.) kalbų pratybų metu. Darbe pateikiami pasiūlymai, kaip efektyviai integruoti šiuos gebėjimus į kalbų mokymo programas, kokius mokymo metodus taikyti, kaip vertinti išugdytus gebėjimus.

ENThe current reality shows that academic standards of particular disciplines that are so essential, the academic knowledge gained (for most students) will never be used directly in any employment context, whereas ability to analyze, communicate, understand and think critically can significantly enhance students' employability. The article explores different perspectives of developing employability skills through Language Teaching/Learning. The research reported here reveals learning outcomes the students and teachers expect and suggests methods that could be applied to achieve the aims we seek. Consequently, the lecturer is required to consider the mechanisms of curriculum to reach the desirable results, to include methods and tasks, which will facilitate learning outcomes and balance consideration of expectations of academic discipline with judgments made about achievement of employability skills.
