Summary / Abstract:

Tiek iа-kamienių formų apibendrinimas esamajame laike, tiek ir ē-kamienių būtajame, tiek šaknies balsio apibendrinimas, matyt, yra susijęs su rytų baltų kalboms būdingu šaknų išsišakojimu diatezinės opozicijos pagrindu.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Baltų kalbos; Rytų baltai; Veiksmažodžiai; Baltic languages; East Balts; Verbs.

ENThe article analyses Cer-type stem verb pairs in Lithuanian and German languages. The semantic analysis reveals a characteristic shift in the meaning and a significant closeness of eastern Baltic languages, since changes in meanings are very similar. All the discussed verbs are identical in terms of morphological structure. Their present tense forms are all ia-stem, however, equivalents in other languages indicate that verbs of the discussed stems can be various, and usually they have a zero formant of the present tense. The ē-stem of the future tense is also presumably an innovation of eastern Baltic languages. Although the analysed verbs do not have Prussian equivalents, which could help analyse their structure, however, stem verbs in eastern Baltic languages and the Prussian language are usually of different stem, for example, the Prussian ima-ts “took”, lima-ts “broke”. Therefore, it is hardly possible to hope for adequate equivalents for Cer-type nouns. The analysed verbs in the both eastern Baltic languages have the vowel shift Cer: Cēr, however, originates from apophonic Cer- / Cr- type stems. Therefore, they generalised the key degree of the stem vowel shift with the new lengthening of the vowel. The structural model Cer/Cēr presumably formed in the epoch of eastern Baltic languages. No other languages have a unified structural type resembling the Baltic Cer-type verbs. The generalisation of ia-stem forms in the present tense and ē-stems in the past tense as well as the generalisation of the stem vowel are presumably related to the changes of stems of eastern Baltic languages on the basis of diathesical opposition.
