Keturiolikos pranciškonų kankinių legendos potekstė

LTŠios straipsnio tikslas – kelti keturiolikos Vilniaus pranciškonų kankinių legendos prasmės klausimus ir pasiūlyti galimus jų sprendimo kelius. Pirmą kartą užfiksuota Bychoveco kronikoje (XVI a. ketvirtajame dešimtmetyje) ši legenda nesulaukė tokio intensyvaus tyrėjų dėmesio kaip lietuvių diduomenės kilmės iš romėnų legenda. Pastaruoju metu išaiškėjo, kad pranciškonų kankinių legendos pagrindas – realūs XIV a. įvykiai Vilniuje. Nepaisant to, legendoje gausu fiktyvių motyvų, kuriuos būtina aiškinti XVI a. LDK diduomenės aspiracijų šviesoje. Pagrindinis legendos leitmotyvas – katalikybės pradžia Lietuvoje. Šios temos šališkas nušvietimas rodo, kad legendos autoriams rūpėjo mažinti Lenkijos Bažnyčios vaidmenį Lietuvos krikšto akcijoje. Tuo pačiu ir Jogailos nuopelnai krikštijant lietuvius, turėjo nublankti legendinio Petro Goštauto veiklos šviesoje. Tuo galiausiai buvo siekiama kurti Vilniaus vyskupijos savarankiškumo nuo Gniezno bažnytinės provincijos tradiciją ir sukurti pagrindą savarankiškos Lietuvos bažnytinės provincijos (Vilniaus arkivyskupijos) kūrimui. Šias aspiracijas reikia sieti su tuo pat metu kai kurių Lietuvos didikų puoselėtomis svajonėmis Lietuvos karaliaus karūna karūnuoti Žygimantą Augustą. ENThe purpose of this article is to raise the issue of the relevance of the legend of the 14 Franciscan martyrs of Vilnius and to offer some possible insights. The legend was first mentioned in the Bychovec Chronicle in the 1530s, but it did not attract such intense scrutiny as, for example, the legend of the Roman origin of Lithuanian nobility. In recent times it has become clear that certain real events in 14th century Vilnius are the basis of the legend of the Franciscan martyrs. Nonetheless, there are numerous fictitious motifs attached to the legend, which need to be explained in the light of the aspirations of 14th century noblemen of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The basic leitmotiv of the legend is the origin of Catholicism in Lithuania. Partisan interpretations of this topic have shown that the authors of the legend were concerned with downplaying the role of the Polish church in the move to baptise Lithuanians. Similarly, they wished to de-emphasise the efforts of Jogaila in this regard, preferring to focus on the work of the legendary Petras Goštautas. By doing so, it was hoped to establish a tradition of independence of the Diocese of Vilnius from the Church Province based in Gniezno and to lay the foundations for an independent Lithuanian Church Province (Diocese of Vilnius). These aspirations need to be explained in the light of the simultaneously cherished dreams of certain Lithuanian noblemen to crown Žygimantas Augustas as King of Lithuania. The article also deals with possible models for the legend of the 14 Franciscan martyrs in Holy Scripture and hagiographical literature.
