Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article presents the writer’s views on Russia found in his key pieces, such as "Family Europe", "The Land of Ulro", as well as in essays and interviews. His thinking on Russia goes in two directions. Milosz takes on ideas that shaped the Russian culture as uniquely expressed in the philosophical and religious thinking of the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century that opposed the rational thinking of the West. The other perspective is political. Here, Miłosz looks at Russia as an empire state with its destructive influence on the history of Central and Eastern Europe. [From the publication]
