Memory of Lithuania in South Africa
LTPasaulio žydų atmintyje Lietuva tebėra konstanta. Daug prisiminimų apie Lietuvą esti XX amžiaus antrosios pusės Pietų Afrikos literatūroje anglų kalba, ypač Rose Zwi ir Dano Jacobsono kūryboje. Pietų Afrikoje vis prisimenama Lietuva ir ne tik dėl nostalgijos reprodukavimo homogeniškoje šios šalies litvakų bendruomenėje. Išaiškėjus tiesai apie holokausto sunaikintą Lietuvos žydų bendruomenę, išeivių iš Lietuvos palikuonys jautė kaltę dėl privilegijuotos padėties rasinėje Pietų Afrikos visuomenėje ir dėl savo išlikimo. Kai kurie iš jų įsipareigojo liudyti ir būti atminties tęsėjais. Kita vertus, rašymas apie trauminę praeitį padeda įveikti potrauminio streso sindromo padarinius kolektyvinėje Pietų Afrikos litvakų patirtyje ir atmintyje.
ENLithuania remains a constant in the memory of Jews of the world. Lithuania is remembered in English literature of South Africa of the second half of the 20th century, especially in works by Rose Zwi and Dan Jacobson. Lithuania is still remembered in the South Africa not only because of nostalgic feelings Lithuanian Jews of this country have. After the truth about the Jewish community destroyed in Lithuania, descendants of immigrants felt guilt because of their privileged position in the community of South Africa and because of their survival. Some of them took an obligation to testify and to be judges of the memory. On the other hand, putting down the traumatic past helps overcome the outcomes of the post-trauma stress syndrome in the collective experience and memory of Jews of Lithuanian origin living in South Africa.
