LTAptariama mažai tyrinėta sritis - Jono Šliūpo ugdymo koncepcija. Išryškinamas jos filosofinis, psichologinis ir bendrapedagoginis pagrindas, nurodomi ugdymo problemikai įtakos turėję gyvenimo veiksniai, pabrėžiamas pedagoginio palikimo idėjų naujumas ir aktualumas XIX a. pabaigoje. Teigiama Jono Šliūpo pedagoginių idėjų išliekamoji vertė.

ENJ. Šliūpas, who lived at a special and at the same time very complex moment for the Lithuanian nation and who believed that only science and education could lead Lithuania out of the tangle of confused social-political realities, discussed many pedagogical problems important during his lifetime: the goals and tasks of education as well as the landmarks of their implementation; the principles of training and education; the view towards the personality of the person to be educated and its development; the general pedagogical and psychological preparation of the educator; the components of the Lithuanian education system of that time and their content; and education methods and measures. The abundance of various theoretical material and practical experience obtained provides a philosophical, psychological, and general pedagogical foundation for the solving of education problems. His pedagogical ideas, recommendations, and instructions still have a residual value and enable J. Šliūpas to be considered one of the first representatives of scientific pedagogical thinking in Lithuania.
