White spots with the energy of black holes: intersections between histories, religions and cultures
LTEuropos Komisijos siūlymu 2008 m. buvo paskelbti Europos tarpkultūrinio dialogo metais. Europos kultūros laukas nėra homogeniškas, vis dar esama nemažai nesusipratimų ir net kultūrinių konfliktų. Nors reikia pripažinti, kad tolerancijos ir pagarbos Europos regione yra daugiau nei bet kur kitur, šiame pranešime plėtojama idėja, jog kultūros „baltosios dėmės“, atsirandančios dėl nesugebėjimo pažinti ir pripažinti kultūrinių tradicijų skirtumų, gali virsti, metaforiškai tariant, pražūtingomis „juodosiomis skylėmis“. Siekiant pagrįsti šią idėją, pranešime apžvelgiama kultūrų konfliktų ir taikaus sugyvenimo istorija Europoje. Aptariamas XVIII a. arabų įsiveržimas į Pirėnų pusiasalį, daugiakultūrė Sicilija, Normandų invazija Airijoje XII-XIV a., krikščionybės vaidmuo kultūros dialoge, tarpkultūriniai santykiai didžiųjų geografinių atradimų epochoje, tautinių valstybių atsiradimo laikotarpiu bei šiandieninės tarpkultūrinio dialogo problemos Europoje. Pažymima, kad dialogas ES priklauso nuo istorijos suvokimo. Klaidingas sovietmečio vaizdinys iškreipė diskusijas apie kultūrą ES. Naujoji Europa nesulaukia Senosios Europos supratimo. ES erdvėje sugyvena skirtingos kultūros, o kultūrinis dialogas pačioje Europoje ir Lietuvos vidaus gyvenime yra toks pat svarbus kaip dialogas su tais, kurie nepriklauso Europai. Reikia daugiau pastangų plėtoti kultūros infrastruktūrą bei sergėti ją nuo pernelyg didelės centralizacijos.
ENThe year 2008 was designated by the European Commission as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. European cultural space is not homogenous and there is still significant misunderstanding and even cultural conflict. Though, admittedly, there is more tolerance and respect in Europe than anywhere else in the world this presentation explores the idea that “white spots” of culture resulting from the inability to know and acknowledge differences in cultural tradition may turn metaphorically speaking into deadly “black holes”. To validate this idea the presentation looks at the history of cultural conflict and peaceful cohabitation of cultures in Europe. The presentation covers the Arab invasion to the Pyrenean Peninsula in the 18th century, multicultural Sicily, Norman invasion to Ireland in 12–14th centuries, role of Christianity in cultural dialogue, intercultural relations in the Age of Discovery and in the age of formation of national states, and the current issues of intercultural dialogue in Europe. It is noted that the dialogue in the EU depends on the perception of history. Misguided image of the Soviet Union period has distorted cultural debate in the EU. The new Europe is not understood by the old Europe. Different cultures share the EU area and cultural dialogue in Europe itself and in Lithuania internally is equally important as the dialogue with those outside Europe. There is a need for more effort to develop cultural infrastructure and safeguard it from over-centralisation.
