ENIn this article the problems of nowaday’s professional engineers and social development in the high school are discussed, the meaning of the humanitarian development accented and the conception of student’s realized personality culture are overviewed. The change of engineer’s image, created by the imagination of students in the period of 20 years (1976-1996) is presented. The standpoint towards the engineer was investigated in three aspects: the engineer as a specialist, the engineer as a manager and as a personality, intellectual. The life flow, the change of social conditions had corrected the estimation of engineer’s qualities - the allround education was especially evaluated (in the opinion of respondents had raised 25,5%), the engineer’s competence (>23,1%), creativity and organization, constant improvement, ability to communicate. The opinions about engineer specifity are influenced by respondent social and demographical signs - sex, the success of studies, the length of studies and social enviroment of living.
