Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnį sudaro dvi dalys. Pirmojoje dalyje pristatoma vakarietiškoji tautinių mažumų švietimo dimensija - tarpkultūrinis bei daugiakultūrinis švietimas/ugdymas mulnkultūrinėje aplinkoje. Ši teorinė analizė leido sumodeliuoti multikultūriškumo sklaidos tyrimą šiuolaikinėje lietuviškojoje mokykloje. Antrojoje straipsnio dalyje pateikiami kai kurie 1999 m. atlikto tyrimo „Nelietuvių vaikų atėjimo į lietuviškąją mokyklą priežastys ir dėl to kylančių problemų analizė" rezultatai. Šį tyrimą rėmė Atviros Lietuvos fondas, todėl straipsnio autoriai dėkoja fondui už materialinę pagalbą. ENThe aims of this paper are: to describe the contemporary Western multiculturalism dimensions in education; to present some results of the survey "Non Lithuanians children in Lithuanian schools" which took place in February-June 1999. The paper consists of two parts. The first part presents the Western multiculturalism dimensions in education. The second part analyzes the results of research. The contemporary Western multiculturalism dimensions have deal with demands which pluralistic and multicultural society pick up to the school. The idea of multiculturalism of society has great value connotation. This idea makes the basis and the common ground for the theory and practice of multicultural and intercultural education. These two educational strategies are not conflicting even thought they have some differences. These differences were greater at the beginning when American strategy of multicultural education was based on the idea of the "melting-pot" while European strategy of intercultural education emphasized the dialogue between cultures ant the idea that different cultures make each other richer. As time passed, American strategy adopted the idea of equal possibilities in education for all minorities (national minorities including). The Lithuanian schools stay now in the presence of the multiculturalism inside it is a new and unknown phenomenon to such schools. This phenomenon revealed specific problems. The aim of the survey in Lithuanian schools is to find out the reasons why children of other nationalities attend Lithuanian schools and what kinds of problems arise because of this fact. The results of survey shows that the special needs of the minorities are not revealed in Lithuanians schools. Assimilation with majority is great; education focuses on forming and preserving the national identity of the majority. The Lithuanian schools must take decision which way to choose in the future. More acceptable way seems the way that is correct for school in multicultural, democratic and pluralistic society. [text from author]
