Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article analyses the expression of creativity in the youth subculture, representation of identity, and self-affirmation through artistic and creative activities. The case of punk subculture was chosen for the analysis because it is one of the longest-active, both culturally and socially, group of young people that has been existing for the longest time (around three decades) out of most social movements that came to being after the Second World War, which has unique ideas and well-established practices. The article is based on the results of the qualitative study of this subculture carried out in Lithuania in 2005-2008. It was observed from the analysis of those results that the creative nature of the collective identity construction in this culture is expressed through the implementation of various actives, especially on the basis of the anti-conformist philosophy. The paper presents the creative nature of the subculture, discusses the associations between creativity and collective identity construction, and analyses the features of the subcultural philosophy and ethics that actualise to creativity.
