Laisvas žodis laisvame pasaulyje: atviro žodžio mėnraštis "Akiračiai" 1968-2005 m.

LTMonografijoje tiriamos lietuvių išeivijos laikraščio „Akiračiai“ atsiradimo aplinkybes ir priežastis, apžvelgiamos mėnraščio leidybos peripetijos, akiratininkų ryšiai su sovietine Lietuva, santykiai su kitomis išeivijos grupėmis bei spauda, pristatomi bendradarbiai ir redaktoriai taip pat atskleidžiama šio mėnraščio reikšmė ir įtaka išeivijos visuomenei ir Lietuvos žmonėms. Išeivijos kultūrinis gyvenimas nuo pat XIX a. pabaigos išsiskyrė įvairove ir leidinių gausa. Liberalaus sparno atstovai išeivijoje po Antrojo pasaulinio karo ilgą laiką neturėjo savo periodinės spaudos. 1968 m. liepos mėnesį Čikagoje pasirodė naujas laikraštis pavadinimu: „Akiračiai. Atviro žodžio mėnraštis“. Savo „aukso amžiaus“ metais jis buvo leidžiamas 1400-1500 egzempliorių tiražu ir turėjo daugiau nei tūkstantį prenumeratorių. Šis mėnraštis neabejotinai atliko svarbų vaidmenį lietuvių diasporos istorijoje. Ne tik laikraščio skiltyse, bet ir naudodamiesi asmeniniais ryšiais akiratininkai, platindami atviro laisvo žodžio ir tolerancijos pamokas, nemažai prisidėjo prie laisvos visuomenės formavimosi išeivijoje ir Lietuvoje. Vakarų demokratinėse valstybėse tokie žurnalai nėra retenybė, tačiau gana konservatyvioje ir uždaroje lietuvių išeivių visuomenėje laisvas, atviro žodžio mėnraštis, neturintis nei politinio užnugario, nei jokio tvirtesnio finansinio pagrindo, gana unikalus reiškinys lietuvių išeivijoje. ENThe monograph analyses the circumstances and reasons for the appearance of “Akiračiai”, a newspaper of the Lithuanian emigration, reviews the peripeteia of the monthly paper's publishing, a relationship between the members of the newspaper and the Soviet Lithuania, relations with other emigration groups and the press, presents associates and editors and reveals the importance of the monthly and its influence to emigrants and people in Lithuania. Since the end of the 19th c., emigrants' cultural life was diverse and full of publications. After the World War II, for a long time liberal representatives of the emigration did not have their own periodicals. In July 1968, a new newspaper was published in Chicago. It was called “Akiračiai. Atviro žodžio mėnraštis”. In its “golden age” the circulation was 1400–1500 copies. Also, it had more than a thousand subscribers. This monthly had a very important role in the history of Lithuanian diaspora. The members of “Akiračiai” wrote articles and used personal relations in order to spread the lessons of free word and tolerance. In this way they significantly contributed to the formation of a free society in the emigration and Lithuania. In Western democratic states such magazines are not rare. However, in a quite conservative and close community of Lithuanian emigration, an open-word monthly which had neither political support, nor a more stable financial base was quite unique. The monograph reveals historical fragments of still unanalysed Lithuanian diaspora. A lot of sources are included into scientific circulation for the first time.
