ENThe development of new technologies has opened new possibilities of the cooperation between parents and school: it has become possible to have usual proximate discussions, as well as to change traditional means by electronic ones. One of the frequently used is the database – the edaybook, which, according to Copenhaver (2001), is the tool aimed to school administration, teachers, form masters, which presents data of pupils’ learning, attendance recording and the information related to pupil’s activity at school, as well as the tool is aimed to administer information and to provide it for parents. In order to have a more thorough view of the content and possibilities of an e-daybook, the analysis of the characteristics of ten daybooks (of USA, Norway and Lithuania) has been performed and it is presented in the article. The performed analysis allows stating that in different countries characteristics of electronic daybooks are different enough. All analysed electronic daybooks have some analogy – they are created to present useful information for parents of pupils. Lithuania is valued as the country experiencing transformations and slow development. Most innovations are often transferred or adapted from foreign countries to educational institutions of the above-mentioned country. The adaptation or implementation of an innovation is not so simple in a country experiencing transformations not because it influences people values; the countries, which later than developed western countries started applying ICT, faced different interferences, especially financial and human resources problems. The research aim is to disclose the possibilities and problems of an electronic daybook as the means of parents’ and school’s cooperation. The results of the empiric research have indicated the following conclusions. The access to the Internet is available for all parents who participated in the research; two thirds of them use the Internet every day. Though most parents who participated in the research are informed about the possibility to get connected to the electronic daybook; however only 12.2 percent of the parents connect, only 4 percent of which check the daybook every day. 36 percent of the parents check the daybook once per week or once per month (36 percent); even 16 percent do not check at all. The main reason why parents do not register to the e-daybook or do not use it – is its insufficient quality (characteristics, volume of provided information, topics, the information is belated recorded, etc.); they missed information about attendance, being late for lessons, evaluation results, lesson timetable, homework assignments as well as their assessment, schedule for control works, summaries of terms and attendance, compliments and remarks, or this information is provided not operatively, often too late. Parents understand that an e-daybook is a unique way to convey information and they would like to use it in the future. A gymnasium should more actively cooperate with parents; spread information about the implemented e-daybook, its possibilities, advantages, how to register to it and how to use it. It is advisable to organize practical trainings how to use e-daybooks, to indicate the website that presents the instruction how to use an e-daybook. Only the initiative of a school will accelerate becoming of this parents’ and school’s cooperation means a value.
