Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Bendruomenė; Ekonominė ir socialinė integracija; Socialinė sanglauda; Socialinės teisės; Community; Economic and social integration; Social cohesion; Social rights.

ENFor more that 40 years social rights have been a part of the European structure and one of the pillars of the establishment of Europe. Social rights expressed by legal and other means are defined as provisions that are essential in order to satisfy social needs of people and to increase social cohesion and solidarity. The meaning of the concept is not clear enough. Even in political documents social cohesion is usually defined very obscurely; scientists also do not agree on a definition of social cohesion. The article contains a short review on interpretations of social cohesion that emphasizes the aspects that are suitable for the sociological interpretation of the concept in a multiple political, economic and social context. The article also discusses qualitative elements of social cohesion and possibilities to apply them when making a research in a Lithuanian social and economic context.
