Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Idėjų istorija; Istorinė realybė; Istoriškumas; Politikos mokslas; Politinis mąstymas; Politinis žodynasl; Politinių tyrimų humanitarinė tradicija; Politinė kultūra; Ryšiai tarp istorijos ir politikos; Historicity; History of ideas; Humanitarian tradition of political researches; Lithuania; Lithuania, historial reality; Political culture; Political science; Political thought; Political vocabulary; Relation between history and politics.

ENThe Lithuanian tradition of political thought and politics rarely become an object of more thorough research. Only after the restoration of independence, the science of politics became a separate subject. Yet, scientists are more focused on “Western” political issues and problems rather than on the Lithuanian tradition. The tradition of political sciences and political thought in Lithuania is weak. It is only acquiring its features and facing a dilemma: a) whether it should follow the tradition of Western politics thus risking to artificially create the vocabulary of political sciences and its problems, which do not necessarily correspond to the post-communist reality in Lithuania, and to finally refuse the Lithuanian tradition of political sciences; b) to revive the above tradition. These both projects of development of “Lithuanian science of politics” are possible; however, this article should discuss programmes of “Western” research, which would be useful when developing the second project. The article presents three humanitarian approaches to politics: the anglophonic history of ideas, the German history of concepts and the French history of policy. The author claims that they can be new schools of Lithuanian science of politics and also act as useful access when analysing the history of Lithuanian political thought and the specifics of political culture. The article highlights the key methodological similarities and differences in accesses, and demonstrates the key questions and answers to these questions. The final part of the article presents the place of these programmes in the general context of research of Lithuanian political thought. The key possible questions for future research are also presented.
