Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article deals with stability and development of folk art. Folk art is considered to be a constituent part of general culture, however, its comparative weight and extent in the panorama of this culture is not constant. It is changing because of many reasons: depending on the economic, political and social status and their change in time due to internal transformations of folk art and the change in the conception of folk art. The problem based on this aspect rose at the end of the 19th century and has existed ever since, i.e. since the time when folk art generally has crystallised into a substantive factor of artistic subsistence. Folk art is like a trunk of a tree from which different phenomena of art have developed and the trunk stood, is still standing and is going to stand because it is the basis and guarantee of stability of the whole national culture. However, that does not mean it is fossilised derivatively, its roots are able to give new sprouts and some branches of it are flowering when others are fading and sloughing. The conception of folk art itself is also changing, and in general it is fulfilling one of the most important functions of art – the function of approaching and communicating with people. The most important thing in the field of folk art is activity, process and development. Folk art today is not only peasants’ village people’s creation: only every tenth master is a countryman (mostly inhabitants of regional centres). No longer a clear line dividing folk art of village and town, primitive and masterful expression, well recognised, entrenched traditional forms and a search for novelties exists.
