Gilinamasi į savitą novelių pasaulį, įvardijami pagrindiniai motyvai, analizuojama pasakojimo struktūra, atkreipiamas dėmesys į rašytojo kūrybos sąsajas su kitais to meto prozos darbais. Pastebima, kad J . Žlabys-Žengė išsiskiria kitonišku pasaulio matymu, tradicijų laužymu. Tyrimo pabaigoje prieinama prie išvados, kad net ir eksperimentuodamas rašytojas išlaiko turinio ir formos vienybę: kūriniai meniškai išbaigti ir brandūs.

ENArticle describes the only one prose book by Juozas Žlabys-Žengė "Short Life Stories" published in 1940 as it was not analyzed up to now. However, not only his poetry but also the prose is also worth attention. By his collection of short stories the avant-gardist shows himself not as a successor of the tradition imitating one or another prose writer but as an original and interesting writer. His short stories are first of all notable for the metaforicalness of the narrative: a simple life story codes the existential and life experiences that cannot be easily named. Žlabys-Žengė philosophizes by the narrative itself and avoids any consideration. As other modern writers he gives the reader freedom for interpretation: the reader becomes a certain coauthor who finishes the story. One more peculiar trait of Žlabys-Žengė's style is laughter and mild irony felt in a story in which in one or another way the past comes back: so it is demystified and from the tragic becomes the comic one. We could say that such well-considered play is the main principle of Žlabys-Žengė's creative work.
