Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article provides a comparison of the ways of expression of syntactically self-sufficient indirect reporter in the German and Lithuanian languages. The so-called syntactically self-sufficient indirect reporter is understood as the information, presented by the reporter in self-sufficient sentences, i. e. without the phrases or sentences, introducing another person’s speech. The study has shown that in the German language, differently from Lithuanian the phenomenon is especially frequent (38%). In Lithuanian language it is found rather rarely (2%). Both in German and in Lithuanian the syntactically self-sufficient indirect reporter is implemented in self-sufficient sentences, and the difference is that in the German language the main distinguishing trait of the reporter is the conditional mood and in Lithuanian the present tense neuter gender participle is used both as a form of indirect mood and as a modal particle together with the direct and indirect mood.
