ENThe monograph presents Judita Vaičiūnaitė, one of the outstanding Lithuanian poetesses of the second half of the 20th century, as well as her experiences and immortalized in her poems Vilnius. The book embraces various cultural contexts. The biography of the poetess, which originally intertwines with the history of Vilnius, occupies a particular place. Vaičiūnaitė, called a poetess of Vilnius, has unfolded the city's subtle charm, its folklore and created its two-pole poetic structure: sacrum and profanum. The key features of Vaičiūnaitė's poetry are defined comparing it with the oeuvre of other poets and artists from various spheres of art, namely photographers, painters, and artists. Her glance can be recognized in their works and their oeuvre - in her poems (Vladas Drėma's. The Vanished Vilnius, Algimantas Kunčius and his photographs of St Catherine's Church, Aloyzas Stasiulevičius' canvases and others). Vaičiūnaitė's Vilnius - both the theme of her oeuvre and of the present book. The publication subtly and forcibly describes the poetess' relationship with the capital, the legends of the Old Town, the destinies of its dwellers and cultures as well as with historical events. The majority of her poems have become the reflections of the history of the capital's architecture, styles of art and epochs, and the topography of the cultural symbols of the city.In the authoress' opinion, it was in the late 20th century that Vaičiūnaitė created the most integral poetic images of the capital. Her poetry is more than literature - it bears witness to sensations, reflections on the city and observation of it in wonder. In the monograph, Vaičiūnaitė's three books are singled out: In the Month of Forget- Me-Nots (1977), Pavement Sowthistles (1980), and Vie Arch of Clouds (2000). The first two selections of works are important as the maps of the culture and history of Vilnius. The third book - the white one - a farewell book and, according to Viktorija Daujotytė, also to Vilnius, the only city. The present monograph is an ode to Vilnius, the city of kings and to Judita Vaičiūnaitė, still walking along the streets of the Old Town in Vilnius.
